Wendy + Michael / Trash the Dress + A Sunset Ceremony in Mexico

On January 7th Wendy and Michael were married during a beautiful sunset ceremony in the sand at the ocean's edge in the Mayan, Mexico. The day was perfect and we were so excited to be there to capture it all. Wendy and her mom had their hair appointments in the BahiaSpa at the resort and then we headed back to their villa for all the preparations. The ceremony took place about 4:30 as the sun was setting. Their vows were so personalized and meaningful, the ceremony was spoken in Spanish and translated by Eugenia the wedding coordinator. We all attended a special reception dinner in a private area of one of the resort restaurants followed by drinks and live entertainment in the lounge. Wendy looked stunning, Michael was emotional, all the details were elegant and family and friends who had flown in to attend their wedding celebration had an amazing time.
Rewind 24 hours earlier when we met Wendy and Michael at 7 am to head into downtown Tulum to shoot a Trash the Dress session. We were hoping for some rustic, authentic Mexican culture for the shoot and that's exactly what we got. The people in the town were friendly and inquisitive. As we were shooting in the streets we could see many people peeking out through their curtains wondering what was going on. They were curious about Brian's steadicam and why there was a bride and groom wandering around near their homes. We met a couple of Mexican gentlemen who offered Wendy and Michael a bible that they said would ensure them a lifetime of happiness. After some time in the town we took a taxi to a secret beach to shoot some incredible footage of the soft white sand and teal blue water. This stretch of the beach was owned and maintained by a Mexican director who shoots many of his movies there. We were glad one of the locals told us about it as it's hidden between resorts.
We had an amazing time with Wendy and Michael and it's been an incredible 9 months since we first met them. We shot their e-fusion session last June, I created their unique wedding invitations and took photos at Wendy's bachelorette party. We are close friends now and look forward to many more special times in their lives as the years pass. They are now heading back to Mexico for their official honeymoon after having their back home reception last night in Hamilton where we previewed their highlights from Mexico (see below). We hope they get to relax and enjoy their time together as newlyweds now that they don't have all the wedding preparations to think about.

Mary + Matt / Married - Twice! / Weddings in Orlando & St. Catharines

How lucky we are to have had the opportunity to not only capture Mary and Matt's amazing Disney Wedding, but to also be invited to their second wedding and reception in St. Catharines last weekend. With so many amazing images it was very hard to choose just a few to post here on the blog. On January 11th Mary and Matt were married in the Wedding Pavilion at the Grand Floridian Resort at Disney World. The day was full of many special moments as we captured the girls at the salon, then to the Port Orleans to meet up with the guys and then to the Grand to capture Mary and her girls getting ready. The ceremony was conducted by Anne and Garry from Kettle Creek Weddings, and was personalized and beautiful. Michelle, the Disney wedding coordinator was such a great help and kept everything on schedule. After the wedding we were able to spend a few days in Disney enjoying the parks with our girls before heading home. Then less than 48 hours later we headed to St. Catharines for their "back home" wedding and reception. Mary had secretly booked a romantic horse and carriage ride in Niagara on the Lake for part of our photo shoot. Matt had proposed to Mary on a carriage ride so it was extra special for them. During their reception the Disney highlights were shown to all the guests. Mary requested that we include a longer segment of the ceremony as many of the guests didn't have the opportunity to join us in Florida and she wanted them to feel as though they were there on that special day. This highlight is a bit different than our usual ones for that reason. We've never had such a huge response or more laughter and tears than we did that night after showing it. We are so thankful to Mary and Matt for choosing us to capture all their wedding day memories, not many people get to enjoy two wedding days in the same week! We wish you love and laughter and happily ever after!

boo + boobooface + one thousand cranes = love

Capturing Michelle and Mark's wedding day was such fun. These two are just so cute together and their love is obvious in all the little things; their nicknames for each other, the way they look at each other constantly and break into these amazing smiles. Over the past several weeks Michelle has continually written on Face Book about all these little paper cranes she was making for their wedding and in the end there were 1000 of them at the reception. A real labour of love. Mark surprised Michelle and all the other guests at the reception with a vocal performance - it seems years ago he was part of a group and hasn't really performed in more than ten years so Michelle was shocked and very emotional as he expressed his love for her in song. We really loved shooting with Taylor Jackson today, you can check out some of his amazing work through his blog and see his images from Michelle and Mark's big day. I was shooting cinema with the guys today but couldn't help taking just a few stills during their first dance as the lighting was just awesome. Check out their Same Day Experience (SDE). We wish you a wonderful honeymoon in Cancun and thank you for choosing us to capture all your wedding day memories!

Mary + Matt / A Magical Wedding at Disney

We arrived home late last night from our Disney Adventure. What a wonderful family vacation and amazing destination wedding all rolled into 5 fabulous days. Mary, the official WeddingGirl is officially married and we have all the proof! Being there not only to capture every moment of their perfectly perfect wedding, but also there as a guest, made it even more special. With only mere hours until their Canadian Celebration, which we will also capture tomorrow, I am choosing to post just one image from their magical wedding day in Disney with a promise of many more images to come. Brian has just finished editing their highlights to show at their reception tomorrow night and we can't wait to watch it along with Mary, Matt and all their family and friends. We hope that those who couldn't be in Florida to attend the ceremony will feel like they were there once they see their wedding film.
Brian and I are leaving for Austin, Texas on Sunday morning to attend INFOCUS, an intense 3 day workshop for cinematographers and photographers, but once we return I promise to get the blog up to date with more images from both our recent destination weddings!!!

Wendy and Michael / Married in Mexico

Let me start by saying this is NOT the official post about Wendy and Michael's amazing wedding yesterday in Mexico... seeing as we just got home about 4 hours ago from Cancun and are heading out in 4 hours for Disney to film and photograph Mary and Matt's amazing destination wedding I only have a few minutes to put together this blog post... so here is just one image from Mexico... the rest to come as soon as we're back! Just quickly I'd like to say that we loved our time with Wendy and Michael and their family and friends at the Bahia Principe - a gorgeous resort - our only wish was that we could have spent more time there. When I think that in a very short 48 hour window we shot the Welcome Dinner in Playa del Carmen, a Trash the Dress Session, their complete wedding day and their reception dinner (just yesterday) it's quite amazing. The time flew by and we can't wait for their back home reception on the 30th where we will unveil their highlight reel - and then of course share it here on our blog!

Reflections of 2009... Studio 67, a Year in Review!

Photobucket

The last day of 2009 is here, it marks the last day of an exciting decade and the birth of a whole bunch of new things at Studio 67. We have had an amazing year and have many people to thank. In no particular order we'd like to give a big Happy New Year hug to: Patrick, Michael, Amina, Konrad, Jessica and Justin at Still Motion - both Brian and I attended amazing and inspiring cinema and photo workshops with these wonderful people this year - without their generous gifts of knowledge, advice and friendship we would have never come as far as we have in 2009.
To Steve Zugelter of Studio+Z Films, John and Jen Moon of Northernlight Filmworks, Ryan Koral of Epic Motion, James Pizarro of Red Bicycle Media and to many other colleagues (the entire list just too long to post here) who have answered our questions and given us criticism and comments on our work either through Vimeo, WedFACT or email, THANK YOU! Also to Matthew Craggs, a fellow cinematographer, who emailed us this year (ironically it was on Brian's birthday) just to tell us he dug what we did and was happy to see a fresh new company raising the bar in the industry. His email led to a visit over coffee and then to a friendship and business relationship that has helped us grow even more. Matthew has shot several weddings with us now and his talents of both shooting and editing have added different flavours to our work and enhanced further the products that we offer our couples - we love that!
To all the wedding professionals we have worked with this year, various photographers, wedding planners, florists, djs, bands, etc. we have loved meeting and networking with you. The value of networking is something we've really discovered in 2009.
To all of the couples who entrusted us with the true privilege of capturing the greatest day of their lives (so far) and to those who have booked with us for their 2010/11 weddings, we feel so lucky to be doing what we love.
To our family and friends (especially my niece Chantelle) who offer to help with everything from babysitting to picking up equipment and supplies - we love you and absolutely couldn't be doing this without you!
Lastly, to our 3 girls who have sacrificed many hours of precious family time with us in 2009 as we have worked most days around the clock to build the foundation of a company that will hopefully build our family a successful future... words can not describe how much we love you. When we took a leap of faith just 18 months ago and began this journey of capturing weddings we had no idea how much we'd fall in love with it. We knew from our very first wedding that this was what we were meant to do. We've been fortunate to have formed friendships with so many amazing couples who are now starting to call and tell us they are expecting - they are celebrating anniversaries - they are telling their friends about us - they are keeping in touch and following this blog, added us as friends on FaceBook - all of that means so much to us. We love that even after the wedding is over and the feature film and photos are delivered we are still in contact with these new friends. We love capturing the next stage of their lives and giving back more amazing memories for them to cherish through our Keepsake Moments fusion and portrait sessions. Life is full of so many moments that we want to stop, if only for a minute.
Our big news... yes, we are in the midst of creating an exciting new identity for Studio 67, a select few have already previewed some of the details and have given us much needed feedback - in fact it's a project that's been in motion for a few months already and it will all officially launch in just a few weeks! We are completely ecstatic!!! The changes will mean many great things not only for us, but for our wedding couples and for the families who we get to work with. We are excited about upcoming corporate shoots, destination weddings and more educational experiences and workshops all lined up for 2010. We hope you'll continue along this journey with us into the new decade. We know the ride will be amazing and we would love for you to join us!
Happy, happy New Year!!! May good health, happiness and joy be yours!

Mary + Matt / Engaged / Walking in a Winter Wonderland

In just 13 days Mary and Matt will be married during their magical wedding celebration in Disney World. We are so honoured to be going along to capture all the details of their big day. Mary is a wedding planner and is busy planning many weddings for others, so finding time to get together for her own engagement shoot, with our crazy schedules, was a wee bit difficult. Yesterday we finally found an hour to get together and of course we just happened to have a blizzard blowing through at the same time. Mary's first words were "Who books an engagement session on December 28th???" But, being we're sort of on a time crunch we thought since we're already here let's just see what we can get before we all completely freeze.
The photos themselves are magical to me... but not in a Disney kind of way. There is something so beautiful about snow falling, keeping warm with your soon to be husband or wife and of course there was lots of talk about the wedding. It's definitely challenging to shoot in the snow, the lens was constantly being covered by big flakes. All in all I'm very happy with the images from our session. Here are just a few photos from our 45 minutes in the snow.
