This one will be off the charts... stay tuned!

On Monday night we got to hang out with Jami and Lucas once again - this completely fun, totally in-love couple has been so great to work with - in fact it doesn't even feel like "work" at all when we get together (of course drinking beers on the patio on a beautiful summer evening isn't really working now, is it? We love our "job" LOL).
For those of you who frequent our blog you will probably remember our last "secret session" with these two and the couple of pictures that I posted from it - well, I managed to take a couple more sneak peak ones to share. Now that we have all the pieces for this underground project in the vault we get to finally start putting it all together. Of course we can't post it on the blog until after their wedding on September 19th, but we know it will be worth the wait.

A Special Fundraising Event - Avery's Journey

On May 1st we had the privilege of attending and capturing Avery's Journey, an annual fundraising event to raise awareness and much needed funds to help fight Retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye). This evening was especially important to us because we've had the pleasure of knowing Miss Avery for 8 years now. She has been a classmate of our daughter Rylie since Junior Kindergarten and we've watched her grow and achieve so many milestones that I'm sure her parents wondered if they'd ever get to experience. Avery has more spunk and drive than most people I know. Her huge heart is kind and warm - she gives the best hugs, ever! In this piece you will see her huge smile, her hip hop dancing and the most sincere appreciation from her parents who, along with many volunteers and sponsors, organize this yearly event. The message we were hoping to get across in this clip is one of hope, inspiration, courage and appreciation. Every dollar that is raised helps Avery and other children, and their families, who are fighting or have been afflicted with cancer. Avery has a prosthetic eye and two hearing aids which will need replacing on an ongoing basis. Neither the government nor employment benefit covers these necessities 100%, therefore, her parents, like many other parents, must fund the remaining expenses out of pocket.
Next spring they will be hosting another amazing evening - check out their website later this year for all the details.

Agnes + Dominik - Rain + Great Wedding Party = Awesome SDE

I think we're now 6 for 6 - all of our last 6 weddings have included a Same-Day-Edit. This one was especially great - the rain made our initial plans for the photo shoot change dramatically - we ended up going to the Eaton Centre in Downtown Hamilton where the possibilities for cool footage were endless. We finally had the chance to meet and work with Kathy and Rick DeMerchant - what a great photography team. You can check out some of their still photos of Agnes and Dom on their blog. Together we came up with some creative shots and really had a fun time. While walking through the mall one guy pointed at Brian in his glidecam vest and said "what's that? are you shooting a real wedding or is this a movie set?". Thanks goes out to Leanne at Michaelangelos for taking care of us throughout the evening and to the terrific Polish band Polmix for hooking us up with great sound for the SDE and for keeping the party rockin' all night long.
There were many tears as everyone watched the SDE, it's just so amazing to give back such a great day to everyone involved, especially to all their friends and relatives from overseas who travelled all the way here to celebrate with Agnes and Dom.
We had a fantastic day - Adrian, the best man, was the glue that kept it all together today, so huge hugs and thanks from us! Agnes and Dom, we are so happy you chose us to capture your wedding day events, you and your families are so kind and your wedding party was amazingly fun - we wish you every happiness in your married life - we love you guys!

Friends, fun and cotton candy..... sweeeeeeet!

Yesterday we packed the van and headed out for our annual trip to Darien Lake theme park in New York. The kids love the rides and all things that put "amusing" in Amusement Park. We met up with some good friends who were camping there for a couple of days and headed to their camp site for lunch. Here are a few photos from our day. Nothing beats "family time", especially when you throw a sunshiney day, good friends and great food into the mix. (Cali's expression when we told her we had to head home was priceless).

The cycle of life... explaining it to kids

This week has been especially difficult for me. Yesterday we said goodbye to our beloved cat Jake. I adopted her almost 18 years ago when she was just 6 weeks old and have had her my entire adult life. I simply can't remember life before her, she was my very first pet, I got her when I moved into my first apartment and started University. She's been with me through so many major events - the births of all three of our girls, 6 changes of address, and way too many things to list here. Her death has been hard on our girls as well. Explaining to Cali, our 5 year old, that Jakie wouldn't be 'waking up' or coming back home was difficult. We all cope in different ways with death and I thought it would make more sense if each of us did our own thing to express our goodbyes. Rylie, the creative artist in the family, made a beautiful beaded necklace for Jake to wear... Cali made a card and showed it to Jake and insisted I take a picture of her "reading" it to her. I wrote a poem and bought a Sedum bush to plant in her memory. I think it's important that children are allowed and encouraged to do what feels most comfortable for them when the time comes to say goodbye to a loved one, even of the animal variety. We had a small funeral and each of us said a few kind words and placed something special in her grave. Cali placed a heart shaped rock and her card. As time passes the grief will lessen for all of us. We will always remember our precious Jakie with the fondest memories and we are blessed to have had her for so long.

Chelsey and Colin were married at the beautiful St. Alexander's in Fonthill and had their ceremony at Club Roma in St. Catharines. The day flew by so quickly and we really enjoyed working with Shawn Taylor from NiagaraPro Photos.
Chelsey has been itching to see the highlights from their big day... Enjoy!

Corina + Dan / SDE

Yesterday we woke at 6 am a little tired from Nikki and Dave's Friday wedding but excited to be capturing Corina and Dan's big day! We met the girls just after 8 am at the salon and then headed to their hotel and then to the Edgewater in Stoney Creek. Their photo session was scheduled before the ceremony but we still wanted to capture Dan's reaction to seeing her in her wedding dress for the first time. Their beautiful ceremony was conducted by Rev. Deb Coleman and included both a stone and a sand ceremony. We enjoyed working with Melissa Wallace of Imagine That Photography.
Here is their SDE - it was our 2nd SDE in just two days and they were absolutely blown away. Dan's reaction was "I didn't even see you guys shooting that" and that's the best part about having us there to capture all the little things you would never have seen otherwise.
All the best to the newleyweds!

Nikki + Dave ~ Hitched in Handcuffs!

What a whirlwind today - from Oakville to Hamilton to Winona - we were there to capture every moment of Nikki and Dave's big day. After a whole week of rain and thunder storms it was wonderful for them to have a sunny wedding day and although the winds blew like crazy during the ceremony it was still an elegant and simply beautiful setting right at lake side. Nikki surprised Dave by buying new a "new" wedding band - different than the one he had picked out himself. She tied it to his boutonnière and when Dave opened the box he was blown away - this replicated his proposal from when he had tied her engagement ring to a bouquet of flowers. He immediately put the ring on and was wearing it BEFORE the ceremony - he couldn't wait to marry the love of his life. Dave is a police officer on the Toronto force and when Nikki reached the alter he quickly grabbed her and and threw on the cuffs... so funny! Matthew Craggs and Peter Rainford came out to shoot with us and together we pulled off an SDE which was enjoyed by everyone at the reception. We'd like to thank the amazing Diana from Liuna Gardens for being so incredibly helpful in organizing everything for us.
We wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness. Here's their SDE. "puppy love"

Tomorrow it's Corina and Dan's big day... in fact, it's TODAY! Night!
