Andja + Milan / Engaged / A tour through wine country

This afternoon I spent a few hours with Andja and Milan and we headed down to Niagara On The Lake for Part One of their engagement session. (Part Two happens next May - we have split up the session because we're working on a super cool concept film to show at their wedding next September).
Milan loves sports, red wine and above those two things on the list is Andja. We decided to incorporate their love of wines in our session today and hit a couple of the local wineries for some tasting and photos. I joked that just as one should not drink and drive one should also not drink and take photos. Here are a few of my favourites from today (I only had one part glass of wine... lol) We are looking forward to spending more time together in the spring for Part Two - stay tuned!

The Newest Arrival

About 2 weeks ago we decided we'd take the plunge and invest in a new piece of equipment for the studio. Brian has wanted a Steadicam for an entire year but it wasn't something we could swing in the budget during our first full year of weddings. Instead we bought and used a much smaller, less expensive Glide Cam which did it's job but "gliding" just isn't FLYING! So we decided to sell the glidecam and were happy to see it go to an aspiring documentary filmmaker in Toronto and then we put in our order for the Steadicam. The 3-4 day delivery time turned into 10 days but sure enough it landed on our door step on Tuesday - left to sit all alone in a big brown box - thank goodness I was home to bring it inside. I guess the UPS driver thought nothing of leaving it there without a signature or ensuring anyone was home. Ironically, the week before the same driver did make me sign for a pair of shoes I had ordered... makes no sense to me, but anyways....
So Brian and Matt now have a new toy to use at all our upcoming 2010 weddings. We can't wait to start incorporating some real flying shots into our wedding films. Stay tuned for our January weddings I'm sure you'll notice some flying for sure.

Here are a few photos of Matt trying it out yesterday.

Madeleine + Mark / laughing till their cheeks hurt!

I spent a couple of hours with Madeleine and Mark yesterday to shoot some engagement photos and really find out more about them individually and as a couple. This is a very important part of the process of us shooting a couple's wedding although sometimes we don't have that luxury due to the restraints of time and distance. They drove from Niagara on the Lake to meet me at Battlefield Park in Stoney Creek and we really had a lot of laughs together. They are definitely comfortable around one another and in between belly laughs I managed to get some great shots of them being them. Mark is a registered nurse and even all the chit chat about the H1N1 couldn't stop him from making Madeleine laugh. I'm certain their wedding day next August will be much the same... lots of laughing and some very sore cheeks! Here are a few of my favourites...

Amanda + Ryan / Engaged / Autumn Love

Amanda and Ryan are our July 10, 2010 couple and we're super excited to capture their wedding day next summer. During our initial meeting a few months ago I asked Ryan how he proposed and immediately Amanda's face lit up like a Christmas tree... well, maybe I should say jack-o-lantern. As it turns out their story was one of the most romantic I have heard so far. Ryan took Amanda out for dinner on Halloween last year and she was feeling a little bit down because their usual plans to spend time with their friends had fallen through. When they came home from dinner Ryan was driving a little slower than normal and Amanda noticed he reached under the seat and was holding some type of box... no, not a ring box. It was a remote for a timer. He pulled into the driveway and asked her to close her eyes. When she opened them there were jack-o-lanterns all across the front lawn and each one was meticulously carved with a letter on the front to spell out "will you marry me?"... in the front window of the house were all their friends and family looking on ... I can't imagine how long it took Ryan to carve all those pumpkins but the hard work paid off when Amanda said YES!!! Pumpkins and Halloween will always be extra special for these two so it was fitting that we did their engagement session right before Halloween. They told me they really love being outside and anything "old"... and so began our adventures looking for great places to take their e-photos. We drove around the countryside finding the coolest, oldest things imaginable. We started with a whole lot full of rusty, antique gas pumps, then to an old iron bridge where Ryan goes fishing with his buddies and then we found a barn built in 1880 and an antique tractor. All completely perfect for their engagement photos. Here are a few of my favourites.

Michelle + Justin / e-Fusion / Engaged and Stealing Kisses !

Michelle and Justin have been together for more than 10 years, but spending a couple of hours with them to shoot their e-fusion session it really felt more like being there on their 3rd date - these two are completely into each other - so comfortable and in love. It was great to capture their undeniable chemistry and passion. When their eyes met I swear I could see sparks and the smiles on their faces really say it all. It's almost like they have their own secret language. We love our e-fusion sessions as the combination of having both photos and a shortfilm together are the perfect way to remember such a special time in your life. As they are busy planning their July 2010 wedding we wish them a lifetime of love and happiness.... may you continue to steal kisses for always !

Jami + Lucas / Trashin' the Dress (and suit)...

We had so much fun shooting their wedding in September and were super excited to reconnect for their Trash the Dress session. Lucas had a perfect location in mind, the Hermitage, located within the Hamilton Conservation Area in Ancaster. It was quite a hike through the freshly soaked forest to reach it but so worth every step. The beauty of rain drenched leaves could only be matched by the vision of love between these two. Lucas rarely takes his eyes off his new bride and it's so great being around such happy, madly-in-love people. When it came to really trashing the dress Jami was all in - Lucas said "if she's trashing her dress I'm trashing my suit" and before I knew it Brian was also in the mix. He climbed right into the rushing stream past his knees to get some great shots for this piece. What an awesome shoot! Here's their TTD session and a few of my favourite photos. Enjoy!
